Future Plans of the American Bear Association

The goal of the American Bear Association is to become a premier education facility that will draw families, students, and researchers to Minnesota to learn about the black bear, other wildlife, and the importance of habitat.

Future planned activities include:

  • Expansion of our educational program beyond the viewing opportunities at the Sanctuary, the outreach programs performed locally, and the website.
  • Construction of a Visitor Center. The center will:

    • Provide classroom space for workshops and programs
    • Provide a starting point from which to develop a nature trail system
    • House museum displays featuring local history
  • Purchase of more land near the sanctuary for habitat use by bears and other wildlife. This goal requires large sums of money to purchase this land. Please help us with your donation to help secure to the future of the sanctuary. We are a 501(c)3, therefore your donation is tax-deductible.
  • Enhancing educational programming and interpretive displays for youth, adults and groups

  • Creating Cub’s Corner, an interactive children’s center for youth ages 2-8
  • Educating schools and communities about black bears, wildlife habitat and conservation
  • Restoring, managing and monitoring ecological health and stability of Sanctuary property
  • Building shower, laundry and kitchen facilities for our interns and volunteers
  • Bringing electricity, telephone and internet to the Sanctuary
